Estate Administration
(Probate and Trust Administration)
Estate Administration Overview
When a loved one dies, it is important to carefully manage their estate. Many times, it is hard to even know where to start.
Macey-Cushman & Reilly provides legal counsel in the administration of estates, including probate and the administration of revocable living trusts. We work closely with you to create a roadmap for completing the process in a way that honors the wishes of the person who has died, while also minimizing your stress in managing the estate.
What should I expect if I hire Macey-Cushman & Reilly for estate administration?
No two estates are alike. We provide a checklist of estate administration information to gather for us ahead of your first meeting with the attorney, so that we start off on the right track and avoid wasting your time.
At your first meeting, we go over the estate’s assets, the beneficiaries of the estate, and your needs as you embark on the process of administering the estate. We go over your role and describe how we will assist you with your duties, including notice requirements, court filings, “marshaling” of the estate assets, dealing with creditors, and ultimately distributing the estate. We talk about how long the process may take, and answer your questions.
Once the process begins, we set check-in points to make sure we are moving together toward estate resolution. The frequency of these check-ins depends in part on your preferences and the complexity of the estate.
At the end of the process, we review the roadmap to ensure that all tasks are complete, and help you close out your role.
